14q22q23 microdeletion syndrome is a rare partial deletion of the long arm of chromosome 14 characterized by ocular anomalies (anophthalmia/microphthalmia, ptosis, hypertelorism, exophthalmos), pituitary anomalies (pituitary hypoplasia/aplasia with growth hormone deficiency and growth retardation) and hand/foot anomalies (polydactyly, short digits, pes cavus). Other clinical features may include muscular hypotonia, psychomotor development delay/intellectual disability, dysmorphic signs (facial asymmetry, microretrognathia, high-arched palate, ear anomalies), congenital genitourinary malformations, hearing impairment. Smaller 14q22 deletions may have variable expression. |

PEHO-like syndrome is a rare, genetic neurological disease characterized by progressive encephalopathy, early-onset seizures with a hypsarrhythmic pattern, facial and limb edema, severe hypotonia, early arrest of psychomotor development and craniofacial dysmorphism (evolving microcephaly, narrow forehead, short nose, prominent auricles, open mouth, micrognathia), in the absence of neuro-ophthalmic or neuroradiologic findings. Poor visual responsiveness, growth failure and tapering fingers are also associated. |

Fetal encasement syndrome is a rare, lethal developmental defect during embryogenesis characterized by severe fetal malformations, including craniofacial dysmorphism (abnormal cyst in the cranial region, hypoplastic eyeballs, two orifices in the nasal region separated by a nasal septum, abnormal orifice replacing the mouth), omphalocele and immotile, hypoplastic limbs encased under an abnormal, transparent, membrane-like skin. Additional features include absence of adnexal structures of the skin on the outer aspect of the limbs, as well as underdeveloped skeletal muscles and bones. Association with tetralogy of Fallot, horse-shoe kidneys and diaphragm and lung lobulation defects is reported. |

A rare non-inflammatory vasculopathy characterised by intracompartmental pressure typically in a distal upper extremity due to intrauterine ischaemia and external compression. Affected limb presents significant swelling and sentinel skin changes (desquamation, blister/bullae formation, and skin necrosis). It can lead to long-term sequelae including Volkmann contracture, limb length discrepancies, bone growth abnormalities and nerve lesions. Neurologic involvement, ranging from sensory and motor nerve palsies to complete hand paralysis, may persist. |
