This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Is a | cavité abdominale | false | Inferred relationship | Some

| Is a | Structure of abdomen proper | false | Inferred relationship | Some
This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Is a | This is a clinical variant of 'abdomen' and relates to the 'abdomen proper' cavity which is defined as the abdominopelvic cavity and content, excluding the cavity and content of the true pelvis, plus the anterior and lateral abdominal wall (but excluding the posterior wall of the abdomen proper). This space and content is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Anteriorly this volume is bounded and includes the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall). | false | Inferred relationship | Some
This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Is a | Structure of subdivision of abdominopelvic cavity (body structure) | true | Inferred relationship | Some
This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Is a | This structure comprises the space and content within the boundaries of the abdominal proper cavity but excludes the walls that define and enclose the space. Previously SNOMED CT used the word 'compartment' to describe structures comprising the cavity and content but FMA has used the same word to include cavity, content and wall. As a consequence, the preferred notation is intra-abdominopelvic proper structure as this more clearly excludes the 'wall' structures. The intra-abdominopelvic proper structure is bounded by, but excludes the following 'wall' structures: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the structures that form the boundaries are excluded. | true | Inferred relationship | Some |

Entire abdominal cavity proper | Is a | True | This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Inferred relationship | Some
Diaphragm structure | Is a | False | This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Inferred relationship | Some
The cavity, also known as the cavity of the major or greater pelvis, is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly an artificial plane that extends from the symphysis pubis to the superior iliac crests; and inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture. It is bounded on either side by the ilium; and in front it is incomplete, presenting a wide interval between the anterior borders of the ilia. It forms the inferior volume of the abdomen proper cavity, which includes a number of parts of structures of the intra-abdominal proper e.g. historically the cavity of false pelvis has been described as containing the 'iliac colon' which is a segment of the descending colon within the volume of the false pelvis. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Is a | True | This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Inferred relationship | Some
Intra-abdominal vitelline remnant | Finding site | False | This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Inferred relationship | Some | 1 |
Intra-abdominal omphalomesenteric duct cyst (disorder) | Finding site | False | This cavity is bounded by, but excludes: superiorly the thoracic diaphragm; inferiorly the superior pelvic aperture; anteriorly the anterior abdominal (including the lateral abdominal wall); and posteriorly the posterior wall of abdomen proper. Note, the contents and structures that form the boundaries are excluded from the cavity. | Inferred relationship | Some | 1 |
